As people are organizing and mobilizing across the nation to confront the challenges to immigration and values of due process, here is a basic strategy you can take part in as a DACA status holder:
If you have DACA, speak to your current/past employers and ask them to write their members of Congress and Senators.
Employers should state in their letters that they don’t want DACA repealed. Letters should speak about the value that DACA employees bring to the business/job. The more personal, the better. These letters can include stories about how DACA employees contributed to the business and how employers have invested in their employees, etc…
It’s crucial to keep in mind that employers have relied on DACA beneficiaries for their businesses. Therefore, employers can emphasize on how repealing DACA will negatively affect their individual businesses and the economy.
Lastly, encourage employers and local businesses to follow-up with their congresspeople and representatives. Remember, the letters should be on the company’s letterhead.

2 to 5pm – opportunity for 15 minute consultations with volunteer immigration attorneys
– healing space opportunity to consult with volunteer mental health professionals about how to cope with the fears, plan for safety, help children deal with their fears
– opportunity to develop strategies for resistance and organizing locally
5 to 6 – closing remarks, possible rally or vigil, etc.

Esta semana ha sido nada menos que una pesadilla hecha realidad. Mi corazón y mente estan llenos de ansiedad. Estoy verdaderamente devastada, desecha y asustada. No puedo aceptar que alguien que representa tanto odio e intolerancia pueda ser apoyado de esta forma. Este presidente electo me recuerda a George Wallace, un segregacionista del sur, que se postuló como presidente con la plataforma política de supremacía blanca durante los 1960s. La retórica de Wallace está repleta de odio, pero uno de sus dichos que no puedo sacar de mi mente es lo que digo durante su inauguración de gobernador de Alabama en 1963. Wallace dijo que quería “segregación ahora, segregación mañana, segregación para siempre” (Wallace, 1963 Inauguración). Estas palabras reforzar y reflejan el odio y racismo de esos tiempos. Hoy, parece que poco ha cambiado.
Pero no podemos darnos el lujo de permanecer sentados. No puedo quedarme inmovilizada por el miedo. Anoche asistí a una marcha y demostración en mi comunidad. Fue alentador ver tanta gente reunida en solidaridad, apoyándose mutuamente. Mientras sanamos y tratamos de salir de este shock, tenemos que movernos juntos como comunidad más que nunca. Para proteger nuestros derechos, nuestra seguridad, y proteger nuestro futuro.
Yo voy a continuar haciendo lo que este en mis manos para crear cambio y continuare trabajando para nuestra comunidad. Continuare publicando recursos legales y educacionales en este foro. También le pido a nuestros lectores que aporten recursos para desimanar y compartir la información más ampliamente.

What I have experienced this past week has been nothing short of a nightmare turned to reality. My mind races and my heart beats fast, full of anxiety. I am truly devastated, shocked, frightened and heartbroken. I can’t accept that a person that stands for so much hate and bigotry could be supported in this way. This newly elected president feels like a repeat version of George Wallace, the southern segregationist that ran on a presidential platform of white supremacy in the 1960s. Wallace has numerous hateful quotes, but the one that sticks in my head is what he spoke during his inaugural address as governor of Alabama in which he stated, “segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever” (Wallace, 1963 Inaugural Address). These words reinforced and reflected the hatred and racism of the times. Today, seems like little has changed.
But we can’t afford to stand still. I can’t afford to remain frozen. I attended a rally in my community last night and it was amazing how many people were there, supporting each other, crying, chanting. It made me feel less alone. As we heal and get past this shock, we have to be active now more than ever. To protect our rights, our safety, and protect our future.
I will continue doing what is in my power to create change continue working for our community. I will continue posting legal and educational resources and information in this forum. I also urge readers out there to forward any resources they have so we can disseminate and share the information more widely.
